I was born in Afyon, Turkiye, in the year of 1981. But I've stayed there for
only one week. We have moved to Sinop and after 5 years, we have moved to Izmir in 1986. In those years, It
was quite difficult to find computers at home in
Turkiye, but my father brought a computer from England to home and I met with my first computer 'Commodore 16' when I was 5.
Commodore 16 was a computer which was produced after Commodore 64 but It had no
capability like C64. However It had rom version 3.5 and cpu MOS8501 with its little 16 kbytes of ram. 4 kbytes of them
were reserved for display, so whole 12 kbytes were free for programming! C16 was not capable for graphics or sounds so there was not as many games for C16 as C64, so all those
conditions pushed me to learn and use its built-in basic programming language.
I exactly started using it when I was 8 and I wrote some simple games for it,
however it was not enough. When I started more complicated ones, I was stopped by the big error message : "Not Enough Memory". It was certain that upgrade was needed.
Thus, Amiga Days were started.
Amiga is the most beautiful computer I have ever seen. It was the best choice for me
to un-limit my creativity. Amiga has really lots of games but, as a basic programmer,
I started using 'Amiga Basic' and then continued with 'Hi-Soft Basic' after I bought my
Amiga 500+ in 1992. Since Amiga was so powerful for graphics and music, I also interested
in 'Deluxe Paint' and my first tracker program 'SoundTracker'. Those years I was listening
to classical music and playing mandolin so I started composing on computer using
'SoundTracker' and then using 'Protracker'. Beside of those programs, I also started 3d design with
the amazing program 'Imagine'.
The programming language that made me improve my skills, was AMOS. With AMOS, I wrote
thousands of programs including Disk Repairing, WordPad, File Crunching tools,
Multimedia
programs and games. I also bought my first PC, Pentium 90, Unfortunately, I had to stop
my works for preparing university exam in 1997. I also met with Internet those years but
couldn't find much time to use.
In 1999, I started university in Cankaya University in Ankara in the department of Mathematics
and Computer Science. Since I had already known the basic elements of programming, It was easy to
learn programming with C, C++, Java, Delphi and Assembly. After 2 years, I changed my department
to Computer Engineering, then I found my favorite area, Digital Circuit Design. I started working
on Microcontrollers such as PIC. In 2003, I started working on Sokoban Puzzle Solver for my
graduation project as an example of AI, and in 2004, creating my own robot 'Buggy Boy' who makes
its way to light to charge its batteries to live on. While I was working on 'Buggy Boy', one of
my friends (Coper) was searching an idea for graduation project and I suggest him to write a
multiplayer deathmatch game like shooting and destroying in space . However, He had different plans
on his mind then I decided to make that idea real. I wrote Blackhole.
Beside of computer science, My interests in music were
continuing. By starting university,
I started playing guitar and I was member of some bands in Ankara, gave concerts but after
graduation, I returned back to Izmir, so band works continued without me but I still continue
recording and composing by myself.
Well, Although I found computers as good friends, It is difficult to say that I'm getting on well
with computer games, because I prefer writing them instead of playing :) However I loved some of
them, especially 'Hired Guns' on Amiga Days. 'Star Wars Dark Forces II' and 'Half Life I/II'
on PC Days and we need to remember the amazing multiplayer game Counter Strike. I'm proud of
being a sniper expert ;P
